ACRYLIC PAINTING CLASSES in MARSASCALA

Since relocating my art studio to Marsascala from Cospicua (which I had running for 17 years and which was a heart-wrenching move), I’ve had such a wonderful run of art classes, sharing my creativity addiction with a great bunch of art enthusiasts. We invariably have lots of laughs in the class as well as serious discussions about putting our crazy world in order. And so much creative energy! As always, people come in with a little weight on their shoulders and leave enthused and energised. Art does that.

Here are some of the many paintings my aspiring artists worked on. One consistent theme: TREES! These paintings started with a roughly painted light red background to resonate with all the following layers of green foliage. (RED & GREEN = complementary colours).
We also played around with various texture-making tools like scratching out with an old credit card and using sponges as a quick way to create bushes and foliage on trees. the foundation was painted roughly with Burnt Siena and allowed to peep through the foreground grass. The bright blue sky in the distance and the burnt orange of the grass in the foreground created a vibrant interaction due to their being complementary colours.
More tree paintings. A beautifully knotted olive tree casts a mottled shadow over the foreground while the background landscape as well as the house are luminous in brilliant sunlight.
A still life topic: sunflowers which allow for play with so many nuanced colours. In this painting we also chose to enhance 2 complementary colour arrangements: yellow flowers with purple background. Orange in flowers with blue of the vase.
